On the fifth and final day of this prestigious tournament played between 14 March and 18 March, finals of all 5 events were played. All England is included in the HSBC BWF World Tour Super 1000 tournaments. The overall prize money, this year was 1 Million USD.
The unseeded pair from Japan of Yuta Watanabe and Arisa Higashino defeated Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong of China in a thrilling third setter, (15-21, 22-20, 21-16). The Japanese pair created history by becoming the first from Japan to ever win an All England Mixed Doubles title.
Next was a Women's Singles Final between the defending Champion, Tai Tzu Ying and Akane Yamaguchi. The World No.1 finished the match in two sets, (22-20, 21-13). Tai Tzu Ying lifted the title for a second straight year. The match lasted for about 45 minutes.
After that, the third match which was Men's Singles was played. It was an all China final played between Shi Yuqi and Lin Dan. Lin Dan who has won the tournament six times before, lost the match to Shi Yuqi in the third set, (21-19,16-21,21-9). Shi Yuqi faced a minor bleeding on his knee in the match but still managed to defeat Lin Dan in 75 minutes. He played his second All England final and won his first this year by defeating his fellow training partner.
The fourth match of the evening was Women's Doubles. The Danish pair won their first ever All England Title against the Japanese pair of Yuki Fukushima and Sayaka Hirota. The Danes, Christinna Pedersen and Kamilla Juhl defeated them, (21-19, 21-18) in a match which touched the hour mark. They played their second All England Final.
And for the most anticipated match of the day, the Men's Doubles, which was a real treat for all the fans in the Birmingham Arena, was won by the Indonesian pair of Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjay Sukamulyo, aka The Minions, secured their second All England title in a row beating two time former champions, Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen, in straight games (21-18, 21-17).
The New service rules were used for the first time. From now on, those rules will be applied in all the tournaments at International level.
All five events were won by players from different nation. The All England came out to be one of the most entertaining tournament as it always is.
The next major tournaments will be Australian Open and Thomas and Uber Cup in May.
