Barca overcome Valencia challenge; Break La Liga record

On Saturday, Barcelona prevailed over Valencia 2-1 in a La Liga match. The Catalan club broke the record of an unbeaten streak in La Liga. The record was held by Real Sociedad with a 38-match unbeaten streak. Barcelona are six points close from guaranteeing themselves a La Liga title with seven matches to go and a Copa Del Rey final. Valverde's side has not been impressive in the Champions League and suffered a shock defeat to A.S. Roma in the Quarterfinal.

Barcelona started with an early goal from Luis Suarez through an impressive assist from Coutinho in the 15th minute. The first half went on to be not so exciting after the first goal. In the second half, Umtiti headed the ball into the back of the net from a corner assist by Coutinho in the 51st minute and gained a comfortable lead over Los Che. Coutinho has not been in a fascinating form since his arrival from Liverpool. He certainly impressed the Camp Nou fans on Saturday and got good applause after he was substituted for Ousmane Dembele.

Barca seemed to lure another win but there was still some action left in the match. Dembele was booked in the 86th minute for fouling Gaya in the box. Valencia were awarded with a penalty which was struck by Parejo. Ter Stegen managed to get a hand to Parejo's penalty yet the ball crossed the goal-line.

Barcelona will face Celta Vigo on Wednesday in a league match and Sevilla in a Copa Del Rey final on Saturday while Valencia play Getafe on Wednesday.

Griezmann snatches a point for Atletico in the Madrid Clasico

Real Madrid had to settle for 1-1 draw at home to city rivals, Atletico Madrid as Antoine Griezmann struck in time to cancel out Cristiano Ronaldo's opener for Los Blancos. Real had the most of the possession of the ball throughout the match but were unable to clinch three points in the Derby. Zinedine Zidane took a risk and played Ronaldo which paid off as the Portuguese scored the opener in the 53rd minute from a fantastic assist from Gareth Bale. But Real couldn't hold on to the lead and eventually, the defense started to break by giving Atletico the opportunity to score which was not left by Antoine Griezmann who leveled the score in the 58th minute. Zidane substituted Ronaldo as he wanted him fresh for the second leg against Juventus in the Quarterfinal match of the Champions League. Meanwhile, Atletico will travel to Lisbon to face Sporting in the Europa League, having won the first leg 2-0.
