Barca trounce A.S. Roma 4-1

On Wednesday, FC Barcelona won 4-1 against A.S. Roma and gained an important lead before they travel to Rome for the second leg of the Quarterfinal of UEFA Champions League. The La Liga leaders played with an experienced squad led by Andres Iniesta.

Barca were looking for a goal from the very first minute but they were denied by Roma's defense. Roma focused on Messi, giving him no room to dribble the ball. De Rossi, the Italian Midfielder came on the wrong side of the scoreboard as he scored an own goal and gave the lead to the Catalan club in 38th minute. In the second half, the Italian Giants started with an appreciable attack. But they scored another own goal which resulted in increasing the gap to 2-0 in the 55th minute. After that, the She-wolf made a series of mistake letting the ball slide in again, from the legs of Gerard Pique. With a 3-0 advantage, Barcelona thought that they had the game in their hands until Edin Dzeko scored a goal for Roma in the 80th minute. There was still time for the Catalans to increase the goal margin and they didn't leave the chance when Suarez put the ball into the back of the net, just three minutes before the end of regulation time.

Barcelona have got an advantage in their hands and they will be looking to finish it off and enter the semifinal stage when they play their away game on next Tuesday.

Barcelona club legend Lionel Messi gave a weepy public interview Sunday, saying he isn't prepared to leave Camp Nou.  "In all actuality I don't have a clue what to say," Messi told columnists. Griezmann snatches a point for Atletico in the Madrid Clasico

Real Madrid had to settle for 1-1 draw at home to city rivals, Atletico Madrid as Antoine Griezmann struck in time to cancel out Cristiano Ronaldo's opener for Los Blancos. Real had the most of the possession of the ball throughout the match but were unable to clinch three points in the Derby. Zinedine Zidane took a risk and played Ronaldo which paid off as the Portuguese scored the opener in the 53rd minute from a fantastic assist from Gareth Bale. But Real couldn't hold on to the lead and eventually, the defense started to break by giving Atletico the opportunity to score which was not left by Antoine Griezmann who leveled the score in the 58th minute. Zidane substituted Ronaldo as he wanted him fresh for the second leg against Juventus in the Quarterfinal match of the Champions League. Meanwhile, Atletico will travel to Lisbon to face Sporting in the Europa League, having won the first leg 2-0.
