Messi scores a hat-trick to help Barca win 4-2 against Deportivo and clinch the La Liga title

Barcelona got the better of Deportivo La Coruna, winning 4-2 in a highly competitive match in Estadio Riazor on Sunday. Deportivo were in a desperate need of a win to avoid relegation in La Liga while the Catalan club were looking to seal a win and guarantee themselves the title. Barca won their 25th League title.


Barcelona took off to a flying start when Coutinho and Messi put the ball in the back of the next in the 6th and 37th minute. Deportivo still had some hope left and Lucas Perez converted that hope into a goal as he was provided an incredible assist from Borja in the 40th minute.

Deportivo were filled with excitement to break through the Barcelona defense in the second half and they did so as Colak equalized the score just after the hour-mark. Valverde's side looked weakened which forced him to bring some fresh legs on the pitch. Denis Suarez and Paulinho were brought in for Dembele and Coutinho respectively.

Lionel Messi delivered two team goals in the 81st and 84th minute to shatter the dreams of Deportivo to stay in La Liga next season. The 30-year-old Argentine superstar completed his hat-trick and got ahead of Mo Salah in the Golden Boot race.


Andres Iniesta, who is leaving Barcelona at the end of the season, said that he wished these moments never end, after he and his fellow teammates celebrated their victory. He receive a standing ovation when he was brought on the field in the 87th minute.


Barcelona have been unbeaten in La Liga throughout the season and it has paid off as they won their seventh La Liga title in 10 years. Valverde has certainly impressed the Camp Nou fans by winning the League as well as Copa Del Rey in his very first year at Barca. He will go head to head against Zinedine Zidane on 6th of May in El Clasico.

Griezmann snatches a point for Atletico in the Madrid Clasico

Real Madrid had to settle for 1-1 draw at home to city rivals, Atletico Madrid as Antoine Griezmann struck in time to cancel out Cristiano Ronaldo's opener for Los Blancos. Real had the most of the possession of the ball throughout the match but were unable to clinch three points in the Derby. Zinedine Zidane took a risk and played Ronaldo which paid off as the Portuguese scored the opener in the 53rd minute from a fantastic assist from Gareth Bale. But Real couldn't hold on to the lead and eventually, the defense started to break by giving Atletico the opportunity to score which was not left by Antoine Griezmann who leveled the score in the 58th minute. Zidane substituted Ronaldo as he wanted him fresh for the second leg against Juventus in the Quarterfinal match of the Champions League. Meanwhile, Atletico will travel to Lisbon to face Sporting in the Europa League, having won the first leg 2-0.
