Bayern began the match in a flawless way but they were forced to make two early substitutions. Arjen Robben and Boateng had to leave the pitch in the 7th and 33rd minute respectively. Yet Bayern scored the opener in the 27th minute coming from the foot of Joshua Kimmich who was provided with a quality assist from James Rodriguez.
Going 1-0 down, Real appeared to have lost control of the match but they didn't miss any chance to score. In the 44th minute, Marcelo struck a long ranger volley which left Bayern goalkeeper Ulreich stranded.
The second half began with Marco Asensio coming on the pitch for Isco. Bayern were trying their best to occupy the most of the ball but they made a defensive error which helped Los Blancos get ahead of them.
Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo ended his streak of scoring goals in every match he played as he failed to attain a goal for the Spanish Giants. His goal was disallowed for handball in the match.
Frank Ribery had a huge impact on the game and seemed to trouble the Real Madrid almost every time he made a run with the ball but he couldn't get the ball past Keylor Navas who stood there as a wall.
Though having not played as commanding as they usually do, Real Madrid still made their way to a 2-1 win over Bayern. The Reds (Bayern) imperatively have to strike 2 goals in the second leg in the Bernabeu if they want to stay in the competition.
